ACTIVITIES

The Samaná Peninsula is one of the most beautiful nature areas and with many of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic.

The capital of the province is Santa Bárbara de Samaná but the most touristic and cosmopolitan city with a calm but very happy atmosphere is Las Terrenas.

Discovered some 30 years ago by French and Italians, the original fishing village has evolved into a small Caribbean / Mediterranean town:              a mix of the best of two worlds and cultures.

The half-island offers a great variety of day-activities and Las Terrenas is the excellent location to have your accommodation. The activity "the furthest" is at 1,5 hours Playa Rincon and Las Galeras and the closest is Salto de Limon reachable at about 15 minutes.

Enjoy during the day your activity on the island and come back in the evening to Las Terrenas, the only town with a great variety of restaurants, bars, beach bars and a very pleasant nightlife for all ages. In other words, staying in Las Terrenas is the best option to make the most  your Samana- vacation: discovering the adventure and nature of the Peninsula during the day, and at night have dinner and dance in the cosmopolitan Las Terrenas.

LA PERFECTA VIDA DE PLAYA

PERFECT "BEACH-LIFE"

Crystal clear waters, palm trees, fine white or light golden sand and spectacular sunsets. The beaches of the peninsula are the best known and most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic. Each beach has its own character and nature, with or without waves, with or without people. Perfect beaches for every taste. Specialy in Las Terrenas there are elegant beach bars (chiringuitos) where they serve the best cocktails

and offer a wide variety of possibilities for tapas or lunch.

A solitary paradise located in the mountains of Samaná is the "el Limon-waterfall" or, as the locals say: "El Salto de Limon".

The waterfalls reach 164 feet high from the ground where it sits in a refreshing natural pool. To get there you can walk (30-45 minutes) or ride a horse (20 minutes), through the jungle, where you will enjoy seeing cocoa, coffee and various tropical fruit plantations along the way.

With a local guide, who will accompany you on your horse or trail trip, you arrive at this impressive destination.

Bring your swimsuit to make the most of a beautiful day.

Distance from Hacienda Terra Taína to the entrance: 15 minutes by car.

LAS GALLERAS/PLAYA. RINCON

The remote fishing village "Las Galeras" is located in the extreme northeast of the , 1.5 hours from Hacienda Terra Taina. The town is very quiet and somewhat isolated. That is why we recommend visiting it as a "day tour". Leaving the Hacienda after breakfast and returning at dinner time to enjoy the cosmopolitan life in Las Terrenas.

Las Galeras is also home to a handful of beautiful beaches, including the well-known Playa Rincón. Daytime crowds gather to take a boat excursion to Playa Rincón, Playa Madáma and Playa Frontón, white sandy beaches that stretch

along a striking rocky Atlantic coast.

ZIP-LINE

The "ZIPLINE" in Samaná is a most exciting tour of all when we fly overhead in the canopy of a rain forest 400 feet in the air.

The first shootings of a total of 12 takes us over 1,000 feet as we jump from the top of the mountain to the next with more than 7000 feet in total line, the longest one in the Caribbean. This remarkable tour is for all family and friends and the experience will be the theme of your dinner for the next few months. To cool off from a hot walk, you can end your day with a refreshing dip in the Lulu waterfall, where you can swim, jump off the rocks, or even get a nature massage.

Distance from Hacienda Tara Taina: 40 minutes.

BALLENAS

The magnificent whales come from the North Atlantic Ocean to the Bay of Samaná every year due to a migratory phenomenon. The humpback whale is a recovering endangered species that grows larger than a school bus. Here in Samaná Bay, these solitary giants come to breed in this special habitat. This event happens every winter, from January 15 to March 15 and about 30 minutes from the Hacienda the boats leave.

There are several tour offers to enjoy in a controlled way this spectacular "event" in nature. Watch how mothers and babies live and grow in this unique international exhibition of nature's beauty and males "singing" to their new love.

A day with a Quad is a very special enjoyment.

If you don't have much driving experience, don't worry because you will be immersed in the rural lifestyle and nature, where speed in life is not a factor. Discover the rural life of a Dominican farm and how its unique personalities make its color of life contrast with the busy beaches and small towns located just a few miles away.

We will see how the local people live their daily lives and feel the Dominicans' camaraderie when they receive you in their lives as a long lost family. Observe in an Quad how the jungles open to one of the many beaches there, where we can take a quick dip to cool off from the tropical heat.

After such a day, you will always remember the sensations of the local culture.

Distance from Hacienda Tara Taina to the locations where the Quads are rented with guides: 5 minutes ...

NATIONAL PARK LOS HAITISES

When you want to see what a true natural paradise is, look no further than Los Haitises National Park.

This unique ecosystem encompasses more than 2,000 miles of jungle, mangroves, and solitary beaches woven into the coastline.

Los Haitises is the place for more than 100 bird spices. The coastline is full of caves where the original Caribbean people, the Taino Indians, lived. Taina pictures and paintings can be seen even today. Also discover the mangroves that adorn the natural beauty of this tropical paradise, giving the landscape an incredible feeling from another era.

You will be saying: "THIS REALLY LOOKS LIKE A DREAM COME TRUE"

KITE-SURFING

Las Terrenas is known for its crystal clear and shallow waters, perfect for kitesurfing.

The best place for kite-surfing is Playa Portillo, just 3 minutes from Hacienda Terra Taina.

It is a wild beach with lots of palm trees, shade and flat water. A bay,  also the safest for "side shore" wind.

It is a very easy place for all levels and very good for those who are just starting, since it has shallow waters.

There are no waves because of the coral banks!

The wind in Las Terrenas starts in December until the end of August. The best windy months are February through July.

Thermal winds of 10 to 20 knots begin to plug in around 1 noon.
